How Do You Buy Rio Carnival Tickets? The 2027 Sambadrome Sale

The league sells Rio's parade nights in stages, and Ticketmaster's pages marked every Special Group seat line sold out on October 9, 2026. Ticketmaster's English help tells foreigners to expect full price and card-only payment; the rest of the rules are written for CPF holders.

Quick answer

LIESA, the league that runs Rio's top parades, sells seats in stages, and only through the Ticketmaster Brasil page its own site links to. On October 9, 2026 that page marked every Special Group seat line sold out for the nights of February 7 to 9, 2027 and the Champions' night of February 13. Its 13 camarotes (private lounges run by operators) and, on a separate page, the second-division Série Ouro nights of February 5 and 6 were not marked sold out.

A foreigner can register with an ID document instead of a CPF (Brazil's tax number), and a foreign card works without installments. But Ticketmaster's English help says international fans pay online by credit card only and get no half-price, and every limit and named ticket is written per CPF.

Who runs the Sambadrome, and which night is which

The Sambadrome (Sambódromo) is the Marquês de Sapucaí runway, opened in 1984. Its parades are run by leagues of escolas de samba (samba schools: community clubs that compete in themed parades). LIESA, the Liga Independente das Escolas de Samba do Rio de Janeiro, runs the top division, the Grupo Especial (Special Group); the second division, the Série Ouro, has its own league, Liga RJ. Riotur is the city's tourism company.

Sat Feb 13Champions' Parade, the six best-placed schools (LIESA, Jul 29, 2026)

The bank-holiday table of ANBIMA (the financial-markets association) puts Carnival on February 8 and 9, 2027 and Good Friday on March 26, so Easter is March 28, Ash Wednesday February 10 and the Sunday-to-Tuesday nights February 7 to 9. Carnival is not a national holiday: what closes, and when. Street blocos (neighborhood parties) and Salvador's Carnival follow other rules, in other guides.

How the sale works, and what each seat is

Ticketmaster Brasil sells on the league's behalf: the league's site, riocarnaval.com, links its ticket button to ticketmaster.com.br/event/riocarnaval, and the league says every stage sells only there. riocarnaval.org is another company, an online agency by its own description.

At the Central Bank's reference rate, PTAX, of October 9 (R$ 4.9892, selling), R$ 250 is about US$ 50 (the dollar rate). Limits are per CPF: 2 tickets in the pre-sale and 4 in the general sale (Jul 29); 2 per night, and one frisa a day, on September 10 (Sept 9).

On September 10 Ticketmaster opened a virtual waiting room 30 minutes early, and says arriving early does not help: the queue is shuffled when sales open. Last season's grandstands sold out within hours. On October 9 the event FAQ said there will be no service fee.

Ticketmaster's event page carries a 2027 sector map (1 to 13): even sectors on one side of the runway, odd on the other, 12 and 13 at the Apoteose Square end. The league's map page is still labeled 2025.

Buying from abroad: what the official pages say

The account. Ticketmaster Brasil's registration asks for email, name, country, phone and CPF ou Documento de identificação (para estrangeiros): a CPF or, for foreigners, an identification document. The holder must be 18 or older, and each login needs a one-time code, by email or authenticator app.

Names and limits. The league writes every limit per CPF and says each ticket is nominal, tied to its user's CPF. No page says how that works for a passport buyer. What the CPF is for; how a foreigner gets one.

Paying. The event FAQ lists credit cards and Pix (Brazil's instant payments); debit cards and boletos (bank slips) do not work. A card issued abroad works without installments, and the event FAQ says its holder must register with data tied to the issuing country (cadastro com dados relacionados ao país emissor). Corporate cards are refused, and the card or Pix account must belong to the registered person. Ticketmaster's policy disclaims payment-method surcharges and exchange-rate changes on international purchases (American cards, cards in general). Both frisa sales (September 10 and 22) took only Pix, which normally comes from a Brazilian account (what tourists can do); no page says how a card-only international fan could pay.

Half-price: who gets it, and what Ticketmaster tells foreigners

Half-price (meia-entrada) was R$ 125 against R$ 250 for the Special Group in the August and September stages. The league names four groups: students, people with disabilities, people 60 and over, and low-income youth. Students prove it with a Brazilian student ID, the Carteira de Identificação Estudantil (CIE), at purchase and at the gate.

Visitors should not count on it. Ticketmaster's English help says the benefit does not extend to people who do not live in Brazil: foreigners should buy full price, and a foreigner holding a half-price ticket pays the difference at the box office on event day. Those pages were last edited in 2025; the league's pages and Ticketmaster's Portuguese half-price pages do not mention foreigners.

Each CPF may buy one half-price ticket, but the league's releases differ: August 10 says per parade day, September 9 says in total.

When the official sale runs out

Still listed. On October 9 the Série Ouro grandstand selector still offered seats for both nights. The popular sectors are the next Special Group stage the league has announced, without a date; in 2026 they sold on February 5, ten days before the first night, for R$ 10.

Resale. None is official. The league calls tickets nominal and non-transferable; Ticketmaster has no resale tool and can cancel tickets found in illegal resale. Online orders can be canceled within 7 calendar days; refunds take up to two card billing cycles, or 10 business days by Pix.

Camarotes. The league describes a camarote as an exclusive, covered space. Each has its own operator and terms: Ticketmaster listed 13 on October 9, each with tickets in its selector. The Allegria, Nº 1 and Mar pages and terms set their own dates, a minimum age of 18 and credential pickup; Allegria bars transfers, the other two allow them, and Nº 1's terms ask foreigners for the original passport as proof of age.

Agencies. The league's FAQ, headed 2025, routes sector 9 seats, which Riotur calls the tourist sector, to travel agencies, though a December 1, 2025 league release put it on sale directly on Ticketmaster from December 2 for the 2026 parades (R$ 650); its 2027 stage releases leave that sector out. Ticketmaster guarantees only tickets bought in its official channels. No agency price is repeated here.

Getting in, and what the ticket does not cover

Tickets are digital only and arrive nearer the date. The Quentro app shows a QR code that refreshes several times a minute, so screenshots fail; the first load needs internet. Frisa holders also register a face. Children from 5 need a ticket, under-16s an adult. The league's FAQ, headed 2025, allows two 500 ml plastic bottles and two food items, bars coolers and glass, and opens the gates at 19:00, but on October 9 Ticketmaster's 2027 pages said gate and show times were a definir (to be defined).

The ticket does not cover the trip. Riotur recommends authorized taxis and the metro: Praça Onze and Access B for even sectors, Central do Brasil, about 700 meters on foot, for odd ones. Riotur says the metro will run a special schedule; MetrôRio's home and news pages showed none on October 9. Rides, the airport, safety by police area.

What we could not verify

  • The checkout and a passport. No page says how a passport buyer meets the per-CPF limits and named tickets. We searched the event FAQ, the Help Center in both languages (all 34 English articles read in full), the policy and terms in both languages and the league's pages; the checkout needs an account, and we opened none.
  • Half-price at the gate. The league's pages do not say whether its gates apply the English help's full-price rule for foreigners.
  • Times, popular sectors and sector 9 in 2027. The league's FAQ says 19:00 but is headed 2025, and its schedule page has no times. Its news, which ended September 30, has nothing newer on the popular stage or sector 9.
  • Smaller gaps. Whether the Ingresso Sambista still sells (label sold out, selector open), and MetrôRio's Carnival hours (none on its home or news page).

Frequently asked
